22 things I have learnt in my 22 years

Image
1. You are going to try and control everything in your life. However, as much as you try you aren't going to succeed.  This is ok. It is normal to make mistakes, in fact it is compulsory - it helps you grow. Life is scary, but it is wonderful so enjoy it. The good and the bad.  2. Always be kind to yourself and others around you. Compassion and empathy are two of the best traits to have.  3. Getting up at 7am and going for a run isn't for everybody! It is ok to hit the snooze button and roll over for an extra twenty minutes. Don't feel guilty. 4. However, it is important to get some exercise into your daily life. A twenty minute HIIT session will set you up for the day.  5. It is perfectly OK to get in your pjs and curl up with a good book after a long day. 6. Sometimes all you need is a few cocktails with your best friends. 7. Despite a few cocktails being wonderful, do NOT drunk text/call/facetime/whatsapp. You will...

The Night Circus

Image
This is a book that I did not want to finish. A majority of my time reading it I was left confused; there are different POVs and the novel constantly jumps around in time. However, instead of this leaving me frustrated, it actually left me eager to continue and to delve deeper into the novel. Morgenstern leaves us in the dark but this brings us closer to the characters and the circus itself. It becomes complicated and you realise there are only 40 pages left. 40 pages is not  enough book for the amount of story you, as a reader, want and need. I finished this novel and my brain combusted (metaphorically of course). I sat and realised that Morgenstern had manipulated us, as readers, to feel this way. She gives us such vibrant characters and such a unfamiliar setting that we have devoured every page but we have failed to completely understand the plot. Everything is connected and we don't realise until it is all over. For this reason, I think this novel is much like...

5 Items On My Dream Board

Image
Hiya you lovely lot, I keep seeing bloggers post about things that they desire so I thought I'd compile a short list of some things that I dream about for my future. There is something that is reiterated in the business that I am in and that is to have a dream/goal board. This is so you can envisage having these items every day and therefore work harder to get them. It is your motivation. I do believe it works. It is very easy to say that you want tons of money but to know exactly what it is that you are working towards makes it so much more rewarding when you can tick it off. This beautiful cottage gives me the feeeeeels. This is what I can imagine my dream home looking like from the outside. It will be cosy and modern inside without losing its character. There will be a fire and a wonderful big jacuzzi bath. I cannot wait to own my own home. Santorini <3 I spent a day on this island as a young girl and even then I was memorised by its beauty and serenity. I would...

Five ways to my heart

Image
I have been thinking about writing this blog post for a while. I think some people use this title to write about what they want in a boyfriend/girlfriend and as I've already got Chris I was unsure whether it suited my blog.  However - What you look for in a boyfriend/girlfriend shouldn't be that different to what you look for in a friend and this is why I have decided to go ahead and write this post. So here are the five ways to my heart :-) 1. Be kind This quote is so true - you wouldn't regret being kind would you? I don't think there is anything more important than being a kind person. I don't mean the fake type of kind when you're only nice to certain people, or people that you know and like. I mean the genuine kindness that some people show to each and every person that they know, meet and hear about. The compassion that is shown through a person genuinely caring about someone that has nothing to do with them. Not walking past a homeless ma...

I fell in love at the seaside...

Image
Last week me and Chris decided to get on the train from Flitwick (where we live) and go to Brighton (the very last stop on the train line). We were absolutely blessed with sunny weather and we had such a nice day. It is the first time that we have been to the seaside together and is actually the first time in a long time that we have managed to schedule in an entire day together. We love spending time with family and friends but it was so nice to have some special time together.  We went to the Sealife Centre, mooched around on the pier, walked around the Brighton Pavillion, paddled in the sea, had fish and chips and a nice ice cream to finish off the day with.  The seaside is my favourite place to be and I felt completely relaxed for the first time in aaaagggess! Here are some pictures from our day.  Where do you guys go for a day out? Ams x  I found Dory! THE NICEST FISH AND CHIPS. I wish I could tell you where it was, but we hone...

Joe Wicks' Paella

Image
I was bought Joe Wicks' Lean in 15 cookbook by my lovely mum a few weeks ago. Last week, I had my friend Emily over for dinner and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to set myself a goal of cooking a freshly prepared and healthy meal for us. I chose to cook the paella. First of all I should add that this was never meant to be a full on paella that you would expect to eat in Spain. The idea of Joe's recipes are that they are quick, easy and fairly cheap for everyone to make. We had chicken and prawns as our main ingredients. I threw some peppers, onions and peas in too. Chucked in a pint of stock with Tumeric and Saffron (most expensive spice EVER apparently, but you only need a tiny bit so the pot gets a lot of use). I then put some Uncle Ben's vegetable rice in the microwave, zapped it and then bung it in the pan. I used my wok for this as I needed a big saucepan and this was the biggest I could find. Stirred it for a bit. Dished up. Threw some parsley o...

A new blog on a new domain...Starting over

Image
Isn’t it funny how life just gets in the way?! The last two months have been a total whirlwind. We’ve moved, I’ve got a new job (my teaching career is starting earlier than I thought it would!), I’ve watched two of my friends get married, I’ve worked at Summer School in Cambridge for a month AND I’ve started my own business! Last night I got very frustrated with myself that I hadn’t kept up with my blog. But then I sat and thought about it and decided that sometimes we just have to give ourselves a  break . Sometimes life really does just get in the way and priorities change slightly. Saying that though, I would be lying if I said I hadn’t had  the time  to write. Of course I have had time. I just haven’t used my time to write. I have allowed my time to be filled by other things. Instead of taking 30 minutes out of my day to write, I have sat and scrolled through Facebook, watched a bit of pointless TV, listened to the radio etc. I know that writing on my bl...
